Hier mal wieder ein kleiner Beitrag zum CargalBox HowTo ;) Ich befasse mich aus aktuellem Anlass mit Software RAID-5 auf GNU/Linux und habe beschlossen gleich ein kleines, 2 teiliges HowTo dazu zu schreiben. RAID steht für Redundant Array of Independent Disks. Der RAID Level 5 ist ein Zusammenschluss von 3 oder mehr gleich grossen Festplatten/Partitionen zu einer grossen Platte/Partition. Um Datensicherheit zu gewährleisten, werden von jedem geschriebenen Block Paritätsinformationen erzeugt die auf eine andere Platte im Verbund geschrieben werden. Dadurch erkauft man sich allerdings einen Kapazitätsverlust von ungefähr der Grösse einer der verwendeten Platten/Partitionen. Durch die Berechnung der Paritätsinformationen ist zwar der Datendurchsatz beim Schreiben etwas langsamer, beim Lesen jedoch schneller. In den 2 weiteren Teilen dieses HowTo's wird einerseits das Einrichten eines RAID-5 Verbundes mit 4 Platten beschrieben und andererseits beschrieben, was man machen muss, wenn eine der Platten wegen Defekts getauscht werden muss.
