VNC steht für Virtual Networking Computing und ist eine Entwicklung des Olivetti & Oracle Research Lab. Es dient als Remotesoftware und ist für viele Betriebssysteme erhältlich (Linux, Solaris, Bsd, Windows,...). Nachdem der VNC Source freigegeben wurde, entstanden viele einzelne Projekte die den Code weiterentwickelten und VNC um einige Möglichkeiten erweiterten (Filetransfer, JPG Komprimierung, Userverwaltung,...) VNC besteht aus dem vncserver* und dem vncviewer, alternativ zum normalen vncviewer Client gibt es auch einen im vncserver enthaltenen Java Webclient. Dieser kann einfach mit http://ServerIP:5800 in einem Browser gestartet werden.
